As an addendum to the first part of this article, I have decided to address the question of the best kind of cardio for fat loss.
First of all, let me address the misconception that working out at a lower intensity burns fat. At some time during the nineties, people started to think that working out a lower intensity would burn fat and working out at a higher intensity would burn sugar. Now we know that is not true. Working out at a slower pace is just boring. At the end of the day, the amount of cardio you do impacts the amount of fat you burn.
I follow the advice to work out on an empty stomach, sometimes I have a bit of coffee to get my adrenaline levels up so that I can work out harder. Seriously the best cardio for fat loss is whatever you do at a really intense pace.
All the advice regarding the best cardio for weight loss will still apply. This means that HIIT is great, if you have the discipline to sustain it. I tend to fall flat on my back after a minute of very high intensity training, so I’m sticking with forty minutes on the treadmill while watching sitcoms. Ugh, woe is me – I am so going to get my ass back into gear and do some HIIT soon! Otherwise I feel a bit unjustified with having a fat loss blog.
Anyway, as I was saying… the best cardio for fat loss is whatever high intensity cardio you like to do. Get yourself to a nightclub and dance like crazy (minus the drinking like crazy) or just go to a Zumba class if you love dancing. Go running or walking with friends if you want to fit in more socialization into your day. Whatever you want to do… just do it.
