Abdominal fat loss is my bane.
Seriously. I hate my fat belly. However, I take solace in the fact that most people, no matter how skinny, have a bit of a belly.
And the fact is, people are clamoring for flat abs, six packs etc – but if they have five pounds of fat covering those abs, they will not get to see any abs, not matter how many crunches they do every day…. Until they manage to achieve some serious abdominal fat loss.
There are two ways you need to go about achieving this ab fat loss. First off, you need to lose body fat overall. That is, you need to get your percentage body fat down low low low. Second, you need to add some definition and tone to your ab muscles. I think you can do both simultaneously.
I had a friend who went to the gym and worked out with trainer who made her do heaps of ab exercises. She didn’t lose much fat overall, but she become toned and her figure looked awesome. Have you ever seen a girl who’s a bit chubby but looks really fit and has a relatively defined waist? She looked like that. So don’t diss doing those ab workouts.
At the same time, you have got to lose body fat overall. This means “cutting” ie going into caloric deficit to burn fat. Get yourself on a low calorie diet, and do some serious cardio! When it comes to cardio, I recommend doing some HIIT. But if that gets too much for you or for days when you’re not really up to it, do whatever cardio you want – just start shedding those pounds!
What ab exercises should I do for abdominal fat loss?
Ah, the age old question.
At the very least I think you should do some crunches.
However, the turbulence training ab exercises are pretty awesome and will get you killer abs quicker.
