I love juice diets for quick weight loss. When I finally got serious about losing my excess fat, one of the first things I did was to go on a juice diet. Boy, did it work!
My Experience With Juice Diets For Weight Loss
I was significantly overweight (not mentioning no pounds, haha! But I will upload some photos of myself soon, then you’ll know how much I weighed) when I realized I needed to get serious about losing that fat NOW. Life was too short to go around feeling and looking fat, and you know how when you’re fat you just keep putting the weight on?
Anyway, I wanted something quick and easy to get started with. I had read all about detoxes and cleanses but I wanted to read more before I started. I found out that Gwenyth Paltrow (or was it someone else) did the lemon juice detox, and a number of celebrities swore by detoxing.
Anyway, I also read about fasts, and I have fasted when I was younger, so I know that they’re pretty healthy. Plus, two of my friends had done juice diets and one had done the cabbage soup diet. Cabbage soup sounded kind of yucky, but a liquid diet sounded ok.
I really liked the sound of the Lemon Juice Detox Diet, but boy, was it expensive! At that time I was looking for work and I was pretty broke, so I decided to go for something I could make myself, at home, cheaply. Juice diet it was!
So, I started to look up some recipes for juice diets first. I’ll provide the recipes at the end, but at the time, I decided to go for a citrus smoothie… basically I mixed up oranges and vanilla yoghurt, and added some lemon juice as well.
I had read that it was a good idea to add some fibre to your juice, so I added some whole oats and mixed them in with everything else in the blender. I can tell you that the oats made everything taste so much worse! But I figured it was better than not having them.
Did I mention I was pretty broke when I started the diet? That’s why I didn’t want to spend money on protein powders. However, it would have been a much better idea to get some protein powder and mix it in with the smoothies. I was really worried I was not getting enough protein.
In the end, I only lasted about 4 days on the diet. I felt really energetic and happy on the days when I was on the juice fast, but I was tired of not being able to chew my food! Plus I grew really bored of having the same thing at every meal. And I was worried that I wasn’t getting enough protein.
Another factor was the loss of five pounds within those four days. I was really thrilled! I could just feel lighter… and I knew I was set. I was motivated enough to start working out regularly after that diet was over… then I discovered intermittent fasting and calorie counting, which led to more quick weight loss. However, I credit a juice fast to getting me started.
There is nothing more demotivating than going to the gym for a month and finding that you haven’t lost any weight. That’s why I’m so thankful I could start off my weight loss journey on the right foot this time.
How You Should Do a Juice Diet for Quick Weight Loss
Basically during a juice diet for quick weight loss, you should have only juice. After my diet, I found out that citrus fruits were not ideal for such a diet, so I suppose that if I were to go on a juice diet again, I would try to have different fruits. I did of course have bananas some times.
A juice diet involves a lot of juicing. So make sure you have a juicer, or one of those mini blenders. Personally I have a mini blender, but I’m sure a juicer would have been more convenient.
You should make the juice periodically, it’s best if you can make it just before drinking. Organic fruits and vegetables are best, and make sure you only juice those parts that we normally eat, i.e. avoid things like avocado pits, mango and kiwi skins, etc.
Clean your juicer or blender after using it! I know this can get a bit annoying, but you don’t want to get a nasty disease while you’re on the fast.
Definitely make sure you have a multivitamin and a fish oil tablet every day when you’re on the fast. I have them every day anyway, but it’s important to be especially vigilant when you’re on any kind of fast.
Drink lots of water during the day.
I have also seen recommendations for having one protein shake a day as well, and having done a juice diet, I think it’s a great suggestion.

Is It Worth Doing Juice Diets For Fat Loss?
I would say – absolutely!! Just do it.
There are some inconveniences involved, such as the need to clean your juicer a lot, and the time taken to make the juice. In addition, some people complain of feeling tired, although this has not happened to me at all – instead I felt a lot more energetic!
So, definitely do a juice diet! Remember that I’m not a health care provider though, so check with your GP first. Also, juice diets should be avoided by pregnant women and people about to go into surgery. If you have any long term health complications, see what your doctor thinks before undertaking any kind of diet.
