Hello! Welcome to MyFitnessMotivator.com, my blog about losing weight, getting fit and being healthy
My name is Alisha Ria, I’m a 28-year-old and in the last few months I’ve dropped quite a few dress sizes – yay!!
I’ll be sharing the tips and tricks I’ve learnt during my weight loss journey. Whether it’s advice for people are just getting started with losing weight, or for people more into fitness, you’ll find articles about it here!
My Story – How I Gained Weight, & How I Lost Weight
I’d always been a pretty fit and averagely-skinny person. I grew up with parents who did a decent job of teaching me how to eat healthy.
But, like most kids, I grew up and moved away, far from the controlled home environment.
In college I was on a meal plan, and the cafeteria food was my first step to becoming a bit chubby. But I still had my teenage metabolism going for me.
Once I got a job, I found it harder to keep the weight off.
The final straw was moving in with some relatives 8 months before I got married. Things weren’t working out with my flatmates, and I figured it was just for a few months, why not?
But it turned out they were very unhealthy eaters: junk food lying around, fatty treats, and unhealthy meals. I put on weight so fast! Nothing helped – a few months before my wedding I tried joining a gym, but it didn’t help much. The worst bit was, I learnt some really unhealthy habits that made losing the weight impossible.
After getting married, I found it even harder to make time for exercise. My husband loved me anyway, and I was busy (or at least, those were my excuses).
I had been buying plus size clothing for a while, but one day at work I met a woman who was so obese, she had to make her own clothes. I vowed to never become like her – I really love clothes!
It sounds fickle, but that was the motivation I needed to get serious about losing weight.
In my spare time at work, I researched diets. I started doing Turbulence Training workouts since I found out those were effective and didn’t take much time to do (I’d do them as soon as I got home, before doing anything else). I read the Anything Goes Diet to learn about healthy eating and losing weight. Thankfully this book helped me get back on track with eating healthy.
I finally took the plunge and did intermittent fasts with the Eat Stop Eat diet, and that combined with the eating guidelines in Anything Goes really helped me lose the bulk of my weight quickly. I was down from being “fat” to being “pretty chubby”.
Around this time, I got kind of slack about working out. I was pretty happy with my weight loss, and I could wear nice clothes again!
After a few months of no real exercise (other than the occasional Turbulence Training workout), I decided to get serious again and got Visual Impact For Women, which is written by Rusty, a fitness writer whose blog I followed since the beginning of my weight loss journey.
Visual Impact made me see that I didn’t have to settle for anything less than a sexy, slim body and it taught me how to finally get there!
Today, I’m pretty slim (knock wood!) but I also know how lucky I’ve been. I could just as easily have been caught up in diet scams and the like, or been stuck in the wrong mentality.
What I’ve Learnt From All This
I made a fair few mistakes along the way. If I was going to give advice to someone who wants to lose weight, here’s the summary of what I’d say:
1. Get your mentality straight, and learn to eat healthy. Being fit and in shape is a lifestyle choice we make – you can choose to be fat, or you can choose to be fit. This is the first step. The Anything Goes Diet helped me to learn about how skinny people stay skinny, it taught me how to create a personal “healthy eating” diet that I love and doesn’t feel like a diet, and how to get slim while still having a life.
2. I’d rather lose weight quickly instead of slowly. Intermittent fasting is great for quick weight loss, and Eat Stop Eat helped me a lot.
3. Start to sneak in exercise. If you’re really time-crunched, you can start with the quick Turbulence Training workouts (that’s what I did at first). Or, you can do Visual Impact workouts, which is what I do these days. It’s really upto you, although for women I would strongly suggest doing Visual Impact for Women since it’s specifically for women who want to get fit without getting bulky muscles.
4. If you absolutely hate exercise, try to sneak it in. Go for long walks with your partner, go to dance lessons with friends – anything that gets you moving! Once you start enjoying the extra energy that exercise gives you, you’ll be more enthusiastic about working out.
5. Live a little! Strict diets are a no-no for me – I have chocolate almost every day, I have cheat days, I eat! We only live once, so don’t be a miserable rabbit-food-eating nut
Tell Me What You Think!
Whether you love my blog or hate it, I hope that you get the same success in your weight loss and fitness journey that I was fortunate enough to have.

Alisha, am really enjoying your blog on weight loss tips. I lost 30 lbs on Weight Watchers a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, most of them are back. I’m well aware that I cut back on walking .. OK, I cut out walking and I got lazy with my diet. I’m so glad I followed your link from my blog – it’s just what I need. I hope you will include maintenance programs for folks like me. Losing weight was great but keeping it off will be my goal. Eager to dig into your weight loss tips further!
Hey Linda, congrats on being able to lose weight! Just doing it once gives you more confidence to know that you can do it again
I’ll try to follow up with some maintenance tips when I get a chance. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I enjoyed your blog.. Thank u for sharing! I am just starting out trying to loose weight. Is there any supplements out there that u would reccomend? Or any diet pills to kick start it? What r your thoughts?
Hi Shelley, thanks for reading and I’m happy to hear you like my posts
I have recently been testing some natural supplements, and I’ll make a post on that. I strongly disapprove of any kind of unnatural pills, etc – to the extent that I don’t even like “diet” food like diet soda, since it’s actually very harmful for you. Diet pills and supplements are generally the same, in that they’re mostly very harmful.
Please just stick to a good multivitamin and fish oil tablet.
If you’re looking to jump into weight loss or kick start things, I recommend doing something that will show you results and keep you motivated. As I discuss in my posts, there’s nothing more frustrating than just keeping on trying and not getting anything done.
You could try a juice fast, or you can try a day of intermittent fasting. This is a nice way to start, I’ve found. Please read my articles on healthy eating, and focus on healthy foods that you like. Diet is the most important thing when it comes to weight loss, and intermittent fasting can help kick start that diet and create a caloric deficit easily. If you want to start getting active you can also take up a sport you like, go walking, or join a gym. However – don’t sign a yearly gym contract! Go monthly first, even though it’s more expensive.
Good luck with your weight loss progress and please keep me posted on how you’re going
Thank you Alisha, I think you just saved me from a great deal of aggravation. I had just wondered if Sensa worked, but I had no idea that it might have so many side affects–and severe ones at that. I am a 49 year-old male who worked out all my teen to adult life but lost my way as I felt the inviting pull towards encroaching lethargy with age, along with attending college which had me siting at the computer at home alot and work. But I am happy to say that I have recently had a second wind and am back in the gym and trying to keep in mind the intensity or amount of workout in relation to what I eat (I love food and won’t give it up totally). So if I eat something a little more decadent, I take that into account during my cardio. So i don’t need sickness from product side-affects as a distraction. Thanks again for your blog and for sharing. All the best –Sheldon
Hey Sheldon, glad I could help.
I know where you’re coming from – these kinds of “potions” work because weight loss is a frustrating process and often difficult – so it’s easy to want something to make life easier.
I’m really happy to hear you’re going to the gym again! Congrats! And keep it up
And it sounds like your eating is going pretty healthy too. I think the important thing when losing weight or dieting is accepting that some decadent/high-calorie food is ok. I’m not a fan of extreme or restrictive diets and I believe you can eat pretty much whatever, as long as you maintain your overall weekly caloric deficit. So you might have a huge breakfast (like I did yesterday when I was “breakfasting with the girlfriends”) and skip lunch (also what I did – but I was so full, I just realised around 5 that it might be time to eat something). Getting into healthy eating I think helps you make these adjustments almost automatically, you just keep busy and listen to when your body’s telling you to eat, instead of constantly snacking or overeating.
And I hear you about desk jobs and life helping to pack the weight! But it seems like you’re on the way to success now, good luck and keep us posted
Your bloc is great! You seem honest and it feels like you know how i feel. I lost 40 lbs. Of weight in 6 months by calories counting and exercise, but ive gotten lazy. So, i gain most back. I just orderedSENSA and i hope it will help me a little.
Michelle, thanks so much for the compliment, I’m sick of all the garbage out there promoting unhealthy/unsafe methods to lose weight. Please read my article on Sensa side effects before going ahead with the Sensa – I provide links to many studies that show how harmful Sensa is.
Alisha, I am curious as to where you learned about the side effectsof Sensa. Did you conduct your own study?
Hi Jackie, thanks for reading
In my articles on Sensa, I’ve linked out to a number of sites which have researched Sensa thoroughly, as well as complaints boards where people who took Sensa can talk about the effects they experienced. A couple of readers have also made comments about their own results with using Sensa.
